The Federal Judicial Center records that President Barack Obama nominated James Paul Oetken on January 26, 2011, to the seat left by Denny Chin, that the Senate confirmed him on July 18, 2011, and that his commission issued on July 20, 2011. He sits at the Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse in Manhattan.
